Quarry Lake Site Rules
Quarry
Lake is NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. While Quarry Lake is owned
by the City of Shakopee, it is open ONLY to Shakopee-Prior
Lake Shockwaves members. The Shockwaves have signed a Use Agreement
with the City of Shakopee governing our use of the lake. The Lake
may be used ONLY by certain Shockwaves and USA Waterski Active
members for Ski Show practice and for specified water-sports
activities. These include Slalom, Trick, Jump, Barefoot,
Wakeboarding, Wakeskating, Kneeboarding, Tubing, and recreational
water-skiing.
The
site includes a bituminous and concrete boat launch, a permanent ski
jump, and two slalom courses that include 55 meter pre-gates and
magnets for speed control.
General
Rules:
Safety
and Security of the site, our members and boats must be our highest
priority. Remember that we are GUESTS at the Quarry Lake site,
and our use of the site can be terminated. Let’s not create a
reason for termination.
Please
use common sense and treat the site with care and as your own.
The following is not an all-inclusive list of rules, so if you don’t
see it prohibited here, that doesn’t mean you can do it.
In other words, if your mother wouldn’t allow it, you can’t
do it at Quarry Lake either.
|
|
Members
must behave with deference to the trucks and employees of the
companies that own and use the surrounding land. In particular,
YOU MUST STAY OUT OF AND AWAY FROM THE BITUMINOUS ROADWAYS
OPERATION on the north east corner of the site. You
must also STAY OUT OF AND AWAY FROM THE RAIL ROAD
OPERATIONS to the north of Quarry Lake, including the
gravel road that runs parallel to the RR Tracks. DO
NOT USE THIS GRAVEL ROAD.

. Minnesota Law requires all boaters to
perform the following procedures before driving away from the
launch:
Inspect, then
remove all water,
mud, aquatic plants and prohibited invasive species from boat and
trailer
Drain all lake
water, including from internal or portable ballast systems
Remove drain
plug

B.
SPLWSA requires additional procedures prior to launch at
Quarry Lake. If you/your boat has been on Zebra Mussel
infested waters within the past five days, you must perform
the following additional procedures BEFORE launching:
Pressure
wash your boat and trailer thoroughly with hot water. The
best place to do this is at a car wash with a self-service bay
that includes a hot-water pressure-wand. Here are examples near
Quarry Lake http://g.co/maps/7mqrt
Drain
and flush your inboard engine cooling system at home. This
procedure is similar to the one required for tournament boats at
MN private man-made lakes.
Disconnect
water intake hose. Attach temporary hose to water intake that
will reach 5 gallon bucket outside boat containing city or well
water. (You can make an adapter with PVC fitting and hose
clamps to connect temporary hose to water intake).
Use
garden hose to keep bucket full. Start engine, bring boat to
operating temperature of 160 degrees to open thermostat. At 160
degrees, run engine for additional two minutes. Re-attach
intake hose.
3.
Make sure your gear (ski, wet-suit, rope, handle, life
jacket) has COMPLETELY dried, preferably for five days
after use in infested water.
4.
After you launch your boat at Quarry Lake, remove your trailer
from the water and park up the hill. That will not only help
prevent ZM transport, but enables the members following you to
launch and be ready to ski the moment your time ends.

Although
Quarry Lake is privately owned and not considered a public body
of water, all
State and Federal laws, rules, regulations regarding boating and
waterskiing still apply to
Quarry Lake. This means, for example, rules regarding boat
and trailer licensing, navigation lights, age of boat operators,
waterski mirrors, waterski time-limits, Coast Guard Approved life
jackets, including an additional throwable type-IV, fire
extinguishers, safe driving, exotic species, etc. Shakopee
Police, Scott County Sheriff, and DNR Conservation Officers and
other law enforcement personnel do patrol the site.
Bottom
line, while on Quarry Lake, you are required to know and obey the
law just as if you were on any Minnesota public body of water.
If you are not familiar with the applicable boating law, here is
a link to the safe boating guide on the DNR web-site.

Please make sure you are familiar with and in compliance with
the law
Only
boats meeting the following requirements may be used on Quarry
Lake. The boat must be 23 ft. or less in length (excluding
swim platform), must be manufactured and intended specifically
for use in towed water-sports competitions, must be propelled by
an inboard four-cycle engine, an outboard four-cycle engine, or
an outboard two-cycle engine with three-star or greater
environmental rating. The Club authorizes only two
exceptions to these rules.
Boats
excluded from use on Quarry Lake include, but are not limited to,
all personal watercraft, all boats exceeding 23’ in length,
boats not specifically manufactured for use in towed water-sports
tournaments, all boats propelled by inboard-outboard engines, any
boat propelled by one or more two-cycle outboard engines with less
than a three-star environmental rating.
In
addition, Boats must fulfill all Minnesota legal requirements
including being properly licensed. Boats must also meet Club
insurance requirements. These include that the boat must be
insured, that the boat insurance include liability coverage with a
minimum limit of $500,000, and that both SPLWSA and USA Waterski
must be listed as additional insureds on the policy. A
certificate of such insurance must be received by SPLWSA in good
order prior to using site.
Club
Members may store their boat on a boat lift in a specified
location in Quarry Lake for $250 per year. You keep boats,
trailers, and boat lifts at Quarry Lake at your own risk. SPLWSA
and the City make no warranties for the safety of your boat,
trailer, or boat lift. The $250 per season includes trailer
storage on shore in-season, and boat lift and dock storage in a
specified location on shore off-season. Privately owned boats
and trailers not allowed on site Nov 1 – May 1. There are
very limited spots available in the lake for your boat lift. You
may provide your own dock. You are responsible for removal and
storage of dock and boat lift in designated spaces during the off
season.
